Khenpo Ngawang Dorjee is Abbot, Founder, and Director of Tashi Choeling Buddhist Cener. He was born in Eastern Tibet and ordained as a Buddhist monk at a young age. He trained under His Eminence Ngawang Pema Namgyel Pelzangpo in the Generation and Completion stages of Glorious Supreme Kalacakra and perfected the practice of the Completion Stage Teaching of the Six Branches of Yoga. He has also studied Tibetan Grammar, Poetry, Astrology, and the Five Key Scriptures of Exoteric Buddhism (sutra) and Four Classes of Esoteric Buddhism (tantra) for eight years as well as the arts and sciences . In 1996 he passed monastic examinations with excellence, and in accordance with unanimous wishes of teachers, reincarnated lamas, and monks of Lunkya monastery he received the rank of Donak Rabjampa (Doctor of Exoteric and Esoteric Buddhist Studies) and was enthroned as an Abbot.
Prior to immigrating to the U. S., he traveled from Tibet to India due to political prosecution. He complied with H.H the Dalai Lama and HE the 9th Khalka Jetsun Dampa to assume responsibilities for Takten Phuntsok Choeling monastery.
In 2003 to teach in New York and Atlanta. Since 2006 he has worked in the Tibetan and Himalayan Digital Library at the University of Virginia as an editor for collected Tibetan writings and as a teacher of colloquial Tibetan. He founded the Tashi Choeling Buddhist Center in May of 2007. The purpose of this center is to teach Buddhist principles and meditation without focusing on a particular sect. In addition, the center will teach Tibetan culture with a primary focus on Tibetan language. This center is registered as not-for-profit organization .
